ABOUT.
Chosen by the SDSU Student Symposium board from a group of 25 designers, this SDSU S3 Student Symposium poster presents a bold, inclusive identity that celebrates the exchange of ideas across all majors. Using SDSU’s red and teal as energetic visual anchors, the design emphasizes collaboration and interdisciplinary connection through overlapping abstract forms. Collaged imagery of hands holding tools from creative, scientific, and communication fields reinforces the symposium’s goal to encourage participation from all majors. A handcrafted paper texture adds warmth and approachability, balancing academic structure with a human, hand crafted feel. The result is an approachable yet authoritative visual system that invites students to share their innovative ideas and see themselves reflected in the symposium experience.
CHALLENGE.
The client identified a key challenge from previous years: participation in the SDSU Student Symposium was largely limited to scientific majors, with minimal engagement from other disciplines. The goal of this redesign was to create a visual identity that felt welcoming and relevant to students across all majors, encouraging broader participation while maintaining the symposium’s academic credibility. The design needed to communicate inclusivity, collaboration, and interdisciplinary exchange.
DELIVERABLES.
The final deliverables included three social media screens, three poster variations, and a booklet cover, all designed within a cohesive visual system. Each piece reinforces the symposium’s existing brand identity while ensuring consistent messaging and strong visual impact across both digital and print touchpoints.
