ABOUT.

Matchaful began with an exploration of balance between tradition and modern ritual, energy and calm. Rather than relying on overt cues, the brand uses subtle symbolism to honor matcha’s origins and cultural roots. The logo hints at Japan through an abstracted Mount Fuji mark, grounding the identity in a sense of place while keeping the system refined and contemporary.

The packaging expands on this narrative through the use of cherry blossoms, a symbol of renewal, mindfulness, and fleeting beauty. Soft pink tones contrast with deep matcha greens, creating a visual balance that reflects both the drink’s earthy richness and its calming ritual. Elegant typography and tasteful layouts allow the natural textures and colors of the product to remain the focus, reinforcing a sense of intention and clarity.

Together, these elements create a brand that feels grounded yet elevated, rooted in tradition while designed for modern moments of pause. Matchaful invites consumers to slow down, reconnect, and find balance in every cup.

CHALLENGE.

Another key design challenge was balancing calm, mindful aesthetics with strong shelf impact. Matcha is closely associated with ritual, stillness, and subtlety, yet the packaging also needed to stand out in busy retail and café environments. This challenge was addressed through intentional contrast, pairing deep matcha greens with soft pinks for visual distinction, giving the logo clear hierarchy and breathing room, and keeping symbolic elements minimal. Together, these choices allow the brand to feel serene and refined while remaining confident and noticeable at a glance.

THE LOGO.

The Matchaful logo is designed to feel elegant and modern, using restraint and simplicity to communicate sophistication. An abstracted Mount Fuji form subtly references the brand’s origin without feeling literal, allowing the mark to remain timeless and refined.
